When you publish an Instagram Reel, auto-generated captions are enabled by default. With this tool, Instagram makes captioning content easier for producers while also making Instagram more accessible to members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing populations, as well as individuals who watch videos with the sound turned off.

When you post an IG video, auto-captions are enabled by default. To disable the audio captions, go to the upload flow and toggle “Captions” off by clicking the switch. This will automatically deactivate captioning for all of your future videos. When watching a video, press the overflow menu and select “Manage Subtitles” to find a toggle switch for turning on and off captions.

Instagram is introducing new, stylish closed caption AR effects for Reels, allowing you to effortlessly boost your video in exciting and creative ways. You can now convert speech into amusing, entertaining, and engaging closed captions that appear like a text message discussion, spew from your mouth, or look like they came right out of a comic book. The effects gallery now contains all three new closed caption effects.
Tap the effects icon on the Instagram camera before recording or after uploading from the gallery. Look for Captions, Mumble Captions, or Comic Captions. Tap the effect you wish to use, then record or apply it to your uploaded gallery material.
