The ability to swipe between your algorithmically determined “Home” timeline and “Latest” tweets has been removed by Twitter. Individuals disliked the “Home” timeline approach since it constantly displayed old tweets, tweets from people they don’t follow, tweets that their connections liked, etc. Users don’t want alternative timelines; instead, they want the most recent tweets to appear in the main feed, as noted by Twitter.
Making the transition between the algorithm-determined feed and the timeline of tweets from the individuals you follow, in chronological order, as simple as possible has some value. Twitter will be hoping that this recycled side-swipe navigation will lessen user annoyance while enabling it to continue pushing more tweets into people’s feeds. Over the past month, Twitter has been trying to expand tweet discovery by pushing a wider range of content into the main feed, which has generally just irritated people.
Because AI-based recommendations, if done correctly, can increase engagement and retention, as TikTok has demonstrated. As Twitter works to enhance its methods and, ultimately, increase engagement by presenting more people with more content they’ll like in the app, it wants to make sure users keep the algorithm feed active.
You may therefore anticipate that Twitter will continue to open to the current feed of followed and suggested content; but, a quick side-swipe will send you to the desired experience.
