Instagram Introduces a New ‘Quiet Mode’ to Help Users Take Breaks, as well as Additional Manual Controls for Recommendations

Instagram is giving users more control over their in-app experience, with new tools that make it easier to take a vacation from the app and choices to tailor what you see in content recommendations.
To begin, Instagram is introducing a new ‘Quiet Mode,’ which will disable all alerts, add a ‘Quiet Mode’ notifier to your profile status, and install an auto-responder on your direct messages.

Instagram is introducing a ‘Quiet Mode,’ which notifies contacts when you are offline. In order to improve its suggestions, Instagram is also introducing additional manual content controls. Instagram is also introducing new settings update notifications for parents.

Instagram adds that while anybody can use the new Quiet Mode capabilities, it will explicitly push teens to do so if it detects that they are spending a large amount of time on Instagram late at night.
Teens might easily fall into the FOMO trap and believe they must be online at all times, but they also need to take breaks and allow their brains to rest. The additional prompts may at least have them thinking about it, while the notifications will make users feel more at ease, since their pals will not feel ignored when they take a break.
