Since Instagram debuted reels in 2020, they have grown in popularity at a quick pace. Instagram is heavily investing in this innovative format and is always striving to improve it, as evidenced by the platform’s decision to increase the maximum time of Reels in July 2021. The new Instagram feature is periodically updated with new editing choices, such as the most recent additions: double exposure and timer.
Let’s take a closer look at what Reels can achieve. Reels are full-screen vertical posts that can last anywhere from 15 seconds to 1 minute. You can also use this tool to combine numerous short films into one. Furthermore, Reels can be outfitted with a variety of add-ons to enhance the content:
- Music – You can add a song of your choosing and alter the original sound ratio of the music vs. the video.
- Voiceover – record your own commentary
- Effects – used similarly to Stories
- Stickers – After you’ve completed a new Reel, you can embellish it with a sticker.
- Doodles – you can draw on top of your video.
Instagram is testing even more new features for Reels:
- Users can use the double exposure feature to take a photo and then record a video on top of it.
- Users can capture multiple videos in separate windows one after the other and then play them all together using Video Layout.
