Meta is internally testing a roll-call feature similar to BeReal in Messenger. Matt Navarra, a social media analyst, discovered the feature and shared it on Twitter.
The feature allows users to respond to a prompt by uploading a photo or video. In BeReal, a similar feature invites users to take photos with their front and back cameras at random times. Only those who add to the roll call in Messenger can see other responses. Unlike in BeReal, Messenger users can initiate a roll-call thread in a group chat at any time. For example, users could create a prompt that says “show me your lunch,” and other group chat participants could respond with images or videos.
According to a TechCrunch report, Meta is also looking to add roll-call functionality.
