New call functionalities on WhatsApp for Android and iOS made it easier to communicate with others.

WhatsApp said in a blog post that several upgrades for WhatsApp calling were made available this year, and the team will continue to improve quality and privacy over time. While you use an upgraded version of WhatsApp for Android or iOS, you may use the following features when making a call:

  • Private group calls for up to 32 individuals can be held using end-to-end encryption.
  • Communicate or mute call participants: You may rapidly message and silence call participants in the event that they forget to quiet themselves.
  • Call links: You may send out an invite link so that individuals can instantly join your WhatsApp call while still being secured by end-to-end encryption.
  • Voice waveforms: When the camera is turned off, you can see who is speaking by looking at the voice waves.
  • In-call banner notifications: An in-app banner notifies you when someone joins the group call in real-time.
  • Picture in Picture for iOS: This functionality will be available to users in the next stable update.

Several upgrades to WhatsApp calls were made available to Android and iOS users this year. Some functions are also accessible on the desktop client, and further enhancements are planned for the next months.
