Twitter is launching another tool to combat impersonation, with business badges that will display alongside checkmarks for authorized sub-profiles and staff accounts of a corporation, as part of a new ‘Twitter Blue for Business’ subscription option.
“We are taking Twitter Blue’s rollout as an opportunity to further enhance and distinguish businesses on Twitter. As a Twitter Blue for the Business subscriber, a company can link any number of their affiliated individuals, businesses, and brands to their account. When they do, affiliated accounts will get a small badge of their parent company’s profile picture next to their blue or gold checkmark” Twitter said.
So now you have round profile photos with checkmarks for Twitter Blue subscribers or ‘heritage verified’ accounts, and square profile images with a gold checkmark for companies (though I don’t suppose non-verified brands can acquire them?). Unless they use an NFT profile shot, in which case it will be a hexagonal picture. You may also add brand logos to authorized affiliate accounts and users.
Much better than simply leaving verification alone. The new profile display for companies is being sent out today and will most certainly remain until a new Twitter CEO recognizes what a bad idea this whole verification overhaul was.
According to Twitter, the new brand badges are currently being pushed out to select businesses ahead of a larger deployment next year.
