Twitter will begin displaying Tweet Reach Metrics at the top of Tweets.
Musk has often stated that Twitter usage has reached all-time highs since he took over the site, with more people apparently checking in to see what Elon will do next with the app. However, it appears that some of that enthusiasm is waning, and doubts are being raised about how effective Elon’s $8 verification program will be in terms of revenue generation.
On the first point, Elon appears to be investigating why individuals don’t tweet and how to better persuade lurkers to participate.
Musk claims that people’s tweets are being viewed by a lot more people than they realize, and that showing this, in addition to Like and retweet numbers, might be a way to increase engagement.
Do you want to know how many people viewed your tweet? It’s good to know that people are seeing what you’re saying, but if you’re not receiving Likes, it might be even more disengaging than not having that data upfront.
In a new interview with Fast Company, a former Twitter employee claims that most of Musk’s Twitter 2.0 initiatives would fail due to his knowledge of previous market research undertaken at the service.
This is mirrored in all of the statistics for the different subscription packages throughout the social media realm – Twitter Blue peaked at 100k members, or 0.04% of Twitter users, Snapchat+ is just 0.41% of Snapchat users, and LinkedIn Premium is merely a fraction of LinkedIn users.
So far, Musk appears to be persuaded that everyone will pay just because they want a blue tick. However, with each delayed roll-out of the improved verification plan, it appears that a level of realism has set in that this will not be the saviour he may have hoped for.
