WhatsApp Beta Introduces Reporting for Status Updates and a Permanent Mute Option

WhatsApp is rolling out a new update through the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the version up to 2.23.5.9. This update introduces two new features for some beta testers: the ability to report status updates and a permanent mute option within notifications.
The new reporting feature allows users to report any status update that violates WhatsApp’s Terms of Service. If a status update is reported and found to be in violation, the account may be suspended from WhatsApp. This feature does not compromise end-to-end encryption as messages and calls remain protected by end-to-end encryption on all devices. A similar report feature is not uncommon in other instant messaging apps.

The permanent mute option is also available in this update, although WhatsApp had already released this feature in 2017. Previously, the mute button was only visible when receiving many messages from a contact or group. After this update, the mute button is always visible in any circumstance.
The ability to report status updates and the permanent mute option is available for some beta testers after installing the latest update of WhatsApp beta for Android on the Play Store. If the features are not yet enabled for your WhatsApp account, they will be rolling out to more users over the coming days. Stay tuned for further updates.
