WhatsApp is experimenting with a private newsletter tool.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature called “Newsletters,” allowing users to subscribe to broadcasts from specific individuals or groups. This one-to-many tool will enable users to receive valuable updates from local officials, sports teams, and other organizations.

The feature will be available as a separate and optional section within the Status tab, and it will have no effect on the end-to-end encryption of private messaging. Newsletters will not pivot to a public social network because the content, like other WhatsApp chats, will always be shown chronologically with no priority. Furthermore, the feature will support handles, which means that users will be able to easily find and join newsletters by searching for them within WhatsApp using a username.
