WhatsApp has released a new update via the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the app’s version number up to 2.23.6.12.
What’s new in this version? For some lucky beta testers, WhatsApp is releasing profile icons within group chats!
When group members have the same name or do not have a profile photo, the profile icon comes in handy. When a group member’s profile photo is missing or hidden, WhatsApp will display a default empty profile photo: this default icon is easily recognisable due to its unique characteristics, including its colour, which is the same as the corresponding contact name.
After installing the latest update of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Play Store, some beta testers will be able to access the feature that adds profile icons to group chats. It is currently only available to a select group of beta testers, but it will be made available to a larger number of people in the coming weeks.
