The process is facilitated in collaboration with au10tix, a forensic identity intelligence company. While au10tix retains biometric data for 30 days, X keeps it indefinitely for safety and security purposes.
Though currently optional, ID verification grants an extra marker on profiles accessible via the blue checkmark. It’s notable that basic verification only requires a phone number and a bank account.
X aims to maintain platform integrity by focusing on account authentication and exploring age-appropriate content measures. Future benefits for verified IDs may include faster approvals and easier profile updates without losing the blue tick.
Implementing ID confirmation could restore the original meaning of the blue tick, initially reserved for notable users and genuine accounts.
